Tank Steering (Self-Propelled Modular Transporter - SPMT):

What it is: Refers to the independent, 360-degree rotating axles found on Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs).  Each axle module has its own hydraulic motor and steering system.

How it works: The operator controls the direction of each axle module electronically (often via remote control or cabin).  This allows for incredibly precise movements:

Omni-directional Movement: Forward, backward, sideways (crabbing), diagonal, and even rotating the entire load on the spot.

Articulation: Axles can be steered independently to navigate tight corners, obstacles, or complex paths.

Load Distribution: Steering helps distribute weight optimally across all axles.
